Thomas

Who doesn't know this: The Quickshade on your miniatures has just dried completely, all that is missing now is a proper coat of matt varnish.
Fresh 'n shiny
But there is one problem: Using "Anti-Shine" is not too easy and if you are careless for just one moment while spraying it on, you get that ugly grayish stuff on your miniature which messes it up completely.

Bad luck, all you can do from now is dunk the whole mini in turpentine and start all over again or try to repair the grey areas. Whatever you do, it will take a lot of time.
Oh no! That miniature is ruined!
To avoid this problem, I just tried applying matt varnish with a brush from a dripper bottle today for the first time. (Luckily, I had a few old minis flying around for quite some time..) I took a freshly quickshaded miniature and splashed it all over the mini. After that, I soaked up all the little pools of varnish remaining on the mini and waited for it to dry.

I must admit, I'm completely stunned by the result, the shine of the quickshade is completely gone and everything is fine! Painting the varnish on the model took me about one minute, so I'm about as fast as if I would have sprayed it on, without having to take care of what I'm doing too much.
Brushed on matt varnish - THIS is how it should look like!
I do not want to talk someone over, but personally, I will stop using spray varnish from today and make use of the bottled varnish instead.

So long!
Thomas

  1. Hallo Thomas,
